It is of utmost importance to read all labels of any food products purchased once you have been diagnosed with an allergy, particularly wheat as it is used so widely and in many products we would never even think it would appear. The ingredients used in Brighterlife's Wheat free Kwik Mixes and related recipes have been specifically developed for those with a Wheat Allergy. However, many others with other food intolerances will find these mixes particularly helpful. Healthy Wheatfree Ingredients Our products are free of many allergy triggering ingredients. We have chosen easy to digest flours, i.e. Rice Flour, Potato Starch and Tapioca Starch. It is also our opinion that they are less likely to be genetically modified. A small amount of raw sugar is used in some of our products to improve palatability. This raw sugar can be sifted out if required. We use a unique whey formula which has pre-digested qualities. All maltodextrins and dextrose are sourced from Tapioca. This product has also been endorsed by the Australian Coeliac Society as Gluten Free. Rice flour: Is the main ingredient in Brighterlife Kwik Mixes. It is a very popular flour and the grain in widely used around the world in all diets. We have chosen to use white rice flour in preference to brown rice flour as we found the end result to be more palatable and brown rice is much harder to digest. Potato Starch: This is simply dried potato and has the consistency of corn flour. It acts as a good binder in cooking. Tapioca Starch: is produced from the root of the Tapioca plant. It provides a "chewiness" and helps smooth out the taste of the rice flour and improves taste and texture. It is noted as being quite non-allergic. No pronounced flavour. Premium Whey Drink: formulated by a leading food technology company with the objective to provide the community with a product alternative that is high in protein without cholesterol and with a low allergy potential. This is a special blend of natural ingredients to provide balance in your diet. This product is a semi pre-digested food, only the concentrated solids (proteins) are used and animal fat is removed by osmosis. Provides proteins to balance carbohydrates. CLICK HERE FOR A FULLER DESCRIPTION OF THIS FORMULA. Xanthum Gum: is a fine creamy white powder, and acts as a substitute for gluten and gives structure to bread so that the dough will rise. Food additive 415. Xanthum gum is derived from a micro-organism grown under highly controlled conditions. It is salicylate free, does not cause digestive upset, is unlikely to cause allergic reactions and works wonderfully in Wheatfree baking. Guar Gum: is a powdery substance with a similar function to Xanthum Gum. It is high in fibre and is noted as additive 412. Guar Gum is natural gum derived from algae (seaweed). It is salicylate free, has a high fibre content, and if eaten in large amounts can act as a laxative. Rising Agents: We have avoided the use of baking powder as it often contains undesirable compounds including aluminium and even wheat. Our products contain Bicarbonate of Soda and Cream of Tartar (336/500). Egg is an optional addition in the mixing instructions. If you are allergic to egg try some of the following substitutes. Oil or egg replacer (available from health food shops), nut butters, honey or tahini. EGGLESS COOKING If you have an allergy to eggs try using the product Egg Replacer that is on the market. You should be able to purchase this from the health food section in your local supermarket or from a Health Food Shop. Follow the instructions on the packet - It complements our products fabulously. Even great to use if you are camping and do not wish to travel with eggs.
